How Does Botox Work?

History of Botox

Botulinum toxin was first researched to be used as a biological weapon during WWII. Nothing ever came from that line of research, but it did open up the doors for Dr. Edward J Shantz and his colleagues. Shantz developed the purified botulinum toxin type A (what is used as Botox today) and began researching it’s more beneficial features. In the 1960’s Alan B. Scott started injecting botolinum toxin type A into monkeys, discovering its muscle relaxing effects.
